For the past week we've attempted to discover a cohesive definition for the term music and have discussed at length various instruments. For this week's blog entry, I chose this video of two scenes form Stomp Out Loud because it does not contain any of the instruments we have discussed in class and shines an unconventional light on what can be considered brilliant music. Stomp is an extremely talented group that uses common objects to create interesting and truly captivating music. Stomp focuses on and celebrates the connection between music and rhythm by incorporating melody, harmony, timbre, etc. I enjoy Stomp Out Loud because it's truly unique and challenges the listener to find music in everyday life- especially in noise that we may traditionally try to block out and ignore.

Stomp Out Loud- Basketball & Kitchen Scenes

Just finished listening to this, its amazing. Its definitely different than what we have been learning.I never thought about how basketballs could be used to make music.It has a nice rhythm to it and I like the part in the kitchen where they use pans because it has the sound of drums which is pretty cool considering that drums and pans are made using completely different material.Thanks for opening my eyes to a new view of music!
ReplyDeleteI loved this video as well as STOMP OUT LOUD. I saw them live with my mom one time they were amazing!!!! You are completely right in saying that we may block out noises or music that may be happening. Stomp does a great job in showing us that anything can be used to make music. GREAT video!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this type of music. I find it the most interesting. I love anything with a rhythm and anything that is catchy and stomp out loud definitely fits that part. I have seen performances by them on morning shows like the View and have always wanted to see it live. It amazes me that people can be so created and construct music by using everyday objects. This brings music to a whole new level and I hope it becomes more popular.
ReplyDeleteI love this music it is really funky and is really interesting to listen to. I love any music with a beat and his is just right, it is great to have music like this around. It is also really good how all different objects are used, it is really good.
